Digital Painting...ish!

Still feeling my way around digital painting with my Cintiq tablet. Truth to tell, I’m not much of a painter, which is (I think) due to the fact that its not something I’ve ever really focussed on. Usually I’m all about figure drawing, but new years bring new adventures!

Fanart: Spinel from Steven Universe

For the most part, my illustration work is done in a sketchbook using a variety of pencils. Next, I’d ink the finished drawing with a lightbox and scan for clean up. Recently(ish), I finally got myself a Cintiq drawing tablet to streamline the process and give myself the tech to digitally color and paint. After MONTHS of summoning up the nerve to actually use it and get over my trepidation related to damaging the tablet accidentally, I’m finally getting acquainted. Here are some things…

Anyway, I’m still getting to know this Cintiq and its capabilities, but I’m going to continue to try things and show my “progress” (which is the exact opposite of what an artist’s natural compulsion is; Show ONLY what you’re proud of).

It's been a long time since I've been able to just sit down and draw. Problematic ally, before I can tackle the great beast that is visual communication, I need to warm-up some. The same way a singer or actor does vocal exercises... This is one way I do that. Drawing a photo from a magazine in my style.
